In contrast to our purpose, we do so much damage to our body and, indeed, our soul, without realizing it, for the sake of achieving the perfect body idealized by the society in which we live. How realistic is it to aim to achieve a uniform body when we consider the extraordinary biology of human beings, while it is impossible to find exactly the same in shape, color and size among all the cats and dogs we love on the street? Or how right is it to push our own limits to death to achieve this goal? Indeed, "I'd die to lose those last five kilos!" The roads that are taken can sometimes result in death.
While the main ways to get rid of excess weight and shape the body are diet, sports and plastic surgery, surgical stomach reduction operations, which have become "fashionable" in the last few years, have also taken their place among these methods. Fortunately, thanks to the frequent news in the press, we have become aware that the casualties are increasing with the increase of such operations; However, there are bodily damages and loss of life caused by excessively rigid diets, intensive and unconscious exercises and unnecessary plastic surgeries that we apply to reach the ideal body, unfortunately it cannot be said that we have the same level of awareness on this issue. Moreover, this damage we inflict on ourselves while fighting with our body is not only physical but also has extremely corrosive consequences mentally.
In our dealing with our bodies, "I'm not good enough!" We can set goals that are almost impossible to realize in line with the logic. This situation brings along an inevitable anxiety process. Continuing to make an intense effort to lose weight faster, to get more tight, and to have more muscle increases this anxiety even more, and ultimately, the situation we are in can become unbearable. The science of psychology defines one of the main causes of disappointment as "a situation we hoped for did not happen". When it comes to weakening, or the unrealization of our hopes of having a body for which we will "be approved", the result is a disappointment that is difficult to repair and compensate. In the aftermath of disappointment, we may develop reactive behaviors such as eating more than before or quitting sports altogether, finding ourselves far behind where we started.
As with diet, there may be situations where the measure is missed in sports. As a matter of fact, all kinds of intense, long-term and uncontrolled sports do more harm than good to our body. As a result of sports-related injuries, we may experience limitation of movement for a long time and we can gain back all the weight we have lost in the past. Result? A huge frustration, a vicious circle that we can't get out of and of course recurrent disappointments ...
So what should we do?
There is one very clear answer to this question: We must stop fighting our bodies and learn to love it!
The main purpose of war with the body is to prove our existence by being accepted in the society we live in. There is something very important that we missed at this point; And that is the fact that our personality or who we are is not limited to our body structure. Therefore, instead of creating an identity through our body perception or the food we eat, we should strive to love our body through our existence and aim to take good care of our bodies that we value in line with this logic. For this too:
Heavy and uncontrolled diets, healthy eating,
We must replace intense, hard and unconscious sports with exercises suitable for our body.
Stomach reduction operations should be a method applied only in case of medical need. When it comes to the aesthetic intervention, it's a bit of a personal choice. Often, there may be a completely different reason (body perception disorder, inability to express himself, an unhappy marriage, etc.) underlying the desire to have aesthetic surgery. Therefore, we should question ourselves thoroughly before making such a decision, and if necessary, get support from an expert.
Our soul has no place to live other than the body in which it resides! For this reason, rather than using our body under harsh conditions, let's take care of it very well and try to love our body as it is, by setting health-oriented, realistic goals that do not only aim for aesthetic purposes.
Remember, we are loved as much as we love ourselves, and we are appreciated to the extent we like ourselves ...
